The primary difference between solid and engineered hardwood flooring is in the way the two types of flooring are constructed.
Solid hardwood flooring planks are each one piece of wood. It is sawn directly from a tree, and the species of the tree determines the species of the flooring. From top to bottom, solid hardwood flooring is that specific species of tree.
Engineered hardwood flooring is also made of genuine wood, but with a layered construction instead. Wood veneers are laid across each other, and a layer of hardwood is placed on top. Some types of engineered hardwood can be refinished, while solid hardwood flooring can be refinished no matter the type. Certain engineered products are 100% waterproof.
Hardwood flooring can be tailored to your unique style. Living in coastal Florida, it’s no shock that whitewashed planks reminiscent of driftwood reign supreme. Oak and hickory are also especially beloved.
The best rooms for hardwood flooring are areas where there is little moisture.
Engineered hardwood flooring can also be installed in basements and finished attics, where they don’t require a nail down installation.
Before our installers arrive, you’ll need to take a few steps to ensure things go off without a hitch.
Hardwood flooring requires a climate-controlled environment. Please leave your air conditioner running prior to installation day. Keep in mind that your flooring will need to be stored within your home for two days before installation to acclimate properly. Also, make sure that your subfloor should be clean, flat, and level. That means that after you remove your old flooring, additional preparations might be needed.
